It's called "Triangulation".
Liberals claim that other Liberals are really Conservatives to set up the argument that because Conservatives think they're Liberal and Liberals think they're Conservative they're really Centrist/Moderate/Independent/Etc.
It's a way of redefining the "Center" intoto the political left ...
