Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) criticized six witnesses who were targeted for their conservative political beliefs by the IRS at a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on Tuesday.
McDermott called the Committees IRS investigation political theater, saying, "The mistake here was that the staff organizing the organizations used the names of the organizations rather than the work they do and asked improper questions to figure that out."
"It's clearly wrong. It was inept, stupid and a whole lot of other things," he continued. "But let's not get lost. During the Bush administration, liberal groups were targeted without any concern by Mr. Issa or anyone else on this committee. The Republicans were looking for a conspiracy where there isn't one. Mr. Issa says 'he can feel it in his gut' that someone's broken the law."
Everybody involved in this was asking for a tax break," McDermott told Breitbart News after the hearing. He added, Thats what the IRS does. They handle taxes in this country. They decide how much people pay in taxes. And if somebody doesnt want to pay taxes and they go to the IRS and say, I dont want to pay taxes, and its because of the money Im contributing to X should be tax exempt. Thats really what theyre doing here.

In one quote, McDermott summed up every Lib talking point:
1. It was stupid but not illegal.
2. The Tea Party should have expected scrutiny because they were asking for a tax exemption.
3. Bush targeted liberal groups.
4. Issa is overreaching and a hypocrite because this happens all the time to liberal groups too.
They are all disgusting.
I hate it when my smell checker finger doesn't work right !
The Dems put on a shamful display today and this stooge McDermott was the bottom of their barrel.
Well, hey, Big Jim, how credible are those liberal group witnesses that you Democrats couldn’t produce. How reliable are they? And how reliable are you and your Banditos Fritos who couldn’t produce them?
NO!!!
They clearly thought this through and posed carefully the very questions they thought would blunt or defeat momentum of many organizations seeking 501c status with the real effect that they would be unable to raise any monies and be an effective participant in public discourse and policy debate.
This was done only for these types of organizations and they were followed up with more questions to stymy an effort to organize.
To this day many organization are still awaiting notification of their status now 2 and 3 years on.
Alaskan?
Are any of the organizations in questions trying to become 501c3 charities where the donations are tax exempt? Everyone I heard of was a 501c4 where the organization doesn't have to pay taxes because it is not attempting to make a profit, but the donations aren't tax deductible.
It was great when Dave Camp made a point of noting that the democrats keep saying liberal groups were targeted and that they would be free to testify but none come forward and the democrats don’t produce evidence.

Nuff said.
It is beyond painful to think that this POS “represents” me in the District of Corruption.
