That brings up another question. I am not a trucker so I honestly don’t know any better, but don’t police need a search warrant or probable cause to search the driver’s cab of a truck?

I was wondering the same thing. Did they ask to search, and did the driver give permission? Otherwise, it’s an illegal search, no?

Here in Maine, the State Police have weigh stations they set-up from time to time. They weigh the truck to make sure it’s not above the weight limits for the road or highway, but other than that, the police are basically checking those things that affect the safe operation of the truck.....brakes, tires, etc.

I’ve never heard of them searching the driver’s cab / sleeping area.
