Gun-rights activists submit petitions to recall Colorado lawmaker

DENVER (Reuters) - Gun-rights activists submitted a petition on Monday to initiate the first recall election of a state lawmaker in Colorado's history for his support of laws restricting firearms.

If the Colorado secretary of state validates at least 7,200 of the more than 16,000 signatures submitted, state Senate President John Morse, a Democrat, would face a recall. The move is being watched nationally by both sides of the gun-control debate.

In March, Morse helped lead the effort to pass a package of gun-control measures in the Democratic-controlled state legislature, including banning ammunition magazines with more than 15 rounds and requiring background checks for private gun sales and transfers.

Governor John Hickenlooper, also a Democrat, signed the bills into law.

The laws were passed in response to the mass shooting at an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater last July that killed 12 moviegoers and a shooting at a Connecticut elementary school in December that killed 26, including 20 children.

The group behind the recall, the Basic Freedom Defense Fund, said on its website that Morse, a former police officer, "has shown contempt for the constitutional liberties of the people he represents" and needs to be removed from office.

We have a long way back to sanity, but anyone that utters the words “common sense” should be tarred and feathered.

There are some horrible anti-gun bills brewing here in the once-Golden State; and one wonders if we could mount some recalls here, as well.

Do remember, this is the state that (in a fit of wisdom) recalled then governor Grey Davis, and elected Arnold Schwarzenegger (Gop-turned-Dem) to replace him.

Many of us Cali gun owners (responsible and law abiding but tired of being abused by the legislature) would gladly work hard and contribute to support Anti-Second Amendment legislator recall efforts.

I hope this catches on. It would stop the usurpation.

That makes no sense. We need more “common sense”.

Amen, Nach! We need to keep doing this everywhere. We gain seats and the other side starts to get the message that they are all vulnerable for their unconstitutional behavior. Already, with all these festering scandals that lead up to the White Hut, you can see the RATs starting to take a second look at where this is going to leave a lot of them next year. At the minimum, it’s destroying whatever “agenda” FUBO had (if any).

I think it refers to the left’s mantra of “common sense” gun legislation, abrogating the Second Amendment.

The organizers of the recall did a great job.

The biggest problem here is how did this smelly piece of excrement get elected in the first place..

Did he promote himself as anti-gun when he ran?

A recall is only good if you outnumber the low info dudes that put the turd in the punch bowl to begin with.
