"During the Nixon administration, there were attempts to use the Internal Revenue Services in manners that might be comparable in terms of misusing it. I'm not saying the actions taken here are comparable," he told a House Appropriations subcommittee. "This is unprecedented." In other words, this is worse.

I posted this elsewhere earlier, but he needs to review his history:
White House Denies Any Role in IRS Audit of Paula Jones
September 16, 1997|From Associated Press
WASHINGTON The White House denied Monday that it had Paula Corbin Jones singled out for an IRS audit, calling the idea of such retaliation "certifiably crazy."
"It's inconceivable to me," White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry said in response to a question on whether the White House pushed for the IRS investigation after Jones rejected a settlement of her sexual harassment suit against President Clinton.

Hey, give ole Barry a break, this is not unprecedented. This kind of power abuse is common with a number of famous leaders.
Marx, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Nero...
The list goes on and on.

Nixon only talked about using the IRS that way. Of course to a liberal, a Republican talking about it is far far worse than a Democrat doing it wholesale.Nixon was also facing resistance from the solidly Democrat and statist nature of the entire bureaucracy, especially in IRS and State.

Werfel, previously a top official at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), called the activity at the IRS unacceptable, and vowed to conduct a comprehensive review of IRS practices to make sure it never happened again.....<.I> If you want to make sure it never happens again, kill the tax code, fire 95% of the blood sucker bureaucrats who work for the IRS, and give us a simple flat tax with no deductions or loopholes.
That way, everyone would pay their "Fair Share" and the Feds would not be able to manipulate us with their "carrot and stick" tax code.

Obama to Treasury IG: "Unfortunately, you've grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that's at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They'll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, and creative, and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can't be trusted."
