In a final regulation issued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year.
Under Obamacare, Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS.
The IRS's assumption that the cheapest plan for a family will cost $20,000 per year is found in examples the IRS gives to help people understand how to calculate the penalty they will need to pay the government if they do not buy a mandated health plan.
The examples point to families of four and families of five, both of which the IRS expects in its assumptions to pay a minimum of $20,000 per year for a bronze plan.
The annual national average bronze plan premium for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) is $20,000, the regulation says.

THEY CAN ALL KISS MY REBEL ASS!
YES IM SCREAMING ON PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
F U B O !! F I R S !!”
So what will you do? Go without insurance? Have all your assets seized? This is why a nation should never dabble in any collectivism. It leads to Tyranny
Imprison?? Not! HANG EM!
Exactly.
Anyone know exactly what elements of Obamacare kick in in 2014 & 2016?
My wife did. Three days stay and surgery, $82,000.
oops 2014 & 2015 is what I meant.
When I was a kid, westerns were the most popular TV shows and films. Often in the plots of these, the bad guys would shoot the stage coach driver and the stage coach would become a run-away.
Suddenly, the hero would climb up into the driver’s seat, and then jump on the backs of the horses and keep jumping toward the front pair of horses until he could reach down, grab the reins and bring the stage coach under control.
This country is a run-away, the Obamans are the bad guys, and we need a hero to grab the reins.
Don’t worry President Christie will fix it all. sarc / off
I don’t have insurance as it is so it won’t matter to me. I pay cash and have saved thousands over the years. Catastrophic insurance is all I need.
The can TRY to seize my assets but at this point I am willing to take up arms against these tyrants. I have drawn my line in the sand.
Like I said, THEY CAN KISS MY REBEL ASS!
You sir are a True American.
20K per family per year is unsustainable and unfordable for 90% of the country.
For many people that is nearly one full time job.
I guess paying for insurance for 47 million uninsured, including ten’s of millions of illegals is going to cost Americans a fortune.
I wonder if they will make the connection?
A competitive market would lop some zeros off that and make it affordable. The government-insurance cabal has destroyed market forces.
I hear ya.
I am shocked the civil war hasn’t happened yet.
We are this nation’s weakest generation yet.
This is unreal that people are being forced to do this at the point of threat from one of the most powerful government agencies, the IRS. When it comes to confiscating people’s money, they don’t play. A convicted murderer can appeal for 20 years, but don’t dare to not give the government what it decrees you must give them!
Can you think of any other way out of the debt?
OK, so you “spent” 82 grand in one bad three-day period.
1. If you were paying cash, you probably could have gotten it for half that.
2. If you add all your medical expenses for any ten-year period including that episode, do they come anywhere $200,000?
Yes, but do you have one hospitalization every year? Would a family of 5 have one hospitalization every year? The purpose of insurance is to pool risk, not to soak the policyholders.
