“Keep digging and digging and digging. Dig the IRS grave. I think you could get this to a flatter, simpler tax system. I'd love to see an end to the corporate tax completely. That solves the problem and clarifies who really pays taxes”

That would mean a whole lot less Lawyers, the Rats will have nothing to do with that, Repubs probably as well.

Now, I am going to preface this this by saying that not all lawyers are vampires on society, etc., but whether it's because of necessity in this "modern" society of ours, or self-promotion worked into our legal system by the profession, legal workers (lawyers, etc.) are at some point of overload not productive members of society as far as that society overall is concerned. That is, they at some point do not contribute to a society's wealth, its ability to survive, or even its ability to take care of those who can't take care of themselves.

So, the true unemployment rate would be better represented once those excess lawyers, IRS employees, tax industry employees, and others, were out on the streets looking for productive work. Of course, once the enormous drag on the system was removed, other employment opportunities should open up.

However, in regards to the earlier comment, a flat tax does not go nearly as far in this regard as many people suppose. That is because what I will simplistically refer to as "determination of income" is, for many taxpayers with income streams more complicated than a simple paycheck and perhaps a few investments, by far the bigger, more complex bugaboo. A good example is Schedule C: If you have to file it and a few of the supporting forms (and manage all the supporting evidence / documentation the IRS requires one to keep), you know what I mean.

There are good reasons that State Income Tax forms (at least the ones I am aware of) generally depend heavily on the Federal Form for "determination of income".

A completely separate factor is that the "average Joe" (or Josey) "doesn't feel" their tax hit via withholding taken out of their paycheck in quite the same way that they would if they had to pay, say, 30% (plus whatever state & local sales taxes would be if that was the only significant revenue for those bodies) ... on every purchase. IMO, in such a system the Sales Tax amount should be required to be shown right on the receipt, and NOT shown on "prices on the shelf." Some will disagree, but I truly believe that a clearly visible Sales Tax to generate all tax revenues would significantly shrink government further, because people would hate the high rates "truth" so much. That should eventually force even more workers into more productive careers. In turn a much wealthier society would result. :-)
