26/11: India tells US to hand over Headley 'temporarily' for a year

New Delhi: India has asked the US to "temporarily" hand over LeT terrorist David Headley for a year and extradite his accomplice Tahawwur Hussain Rana to get more information about the conspiracy hatched to carry out the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

In its fresh efforts to get access to the Pakistani American terrorist, India has conveyed to the American interlocutors to "temporarily" hand over Headley for a year after the US expressed its inability to extradite him.

The request was made during the Indo-US Homeland Security Dialogue held in Washington between May 20-22.

"The US interlocutors assured us to actively consider the request," a top Indian official, who participated in the meeting, said.

Washington also assured New Delhi to positively consider the request to extradite Headley's Pakistani-Canadian friend Rana, who helped Headley to recce the 26/11 targets for Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Following India's consistent persuasion, the US has indicated to interlocutors that India could be given access to Headley for the second time to get more information about the conspiracy hatched to carry out the 2008 attack.

So far, the US has not given any opportunity to question Rana, who was sentenced by an American court for his involvement in a terror plot in Denmark.

Indian investigators believe that if they could quiz Rana, many hidden information could come into light as he was a close associate of Headley.

The investigators believe that Headley and Rana have a lot of information and their interrogations could throw more light on the conspiracy hatched to carry out the worst terror strike in India and role of those behind it.

51-year-old Headley had pleaded guilty to 12 terrorism charges, including his involvement in the November 2008 attacks that claimed 166 lives. He had, however, entered into plea bargain with US authorities.

A court in the US had sentenced 52-year-old Rana to 14 years in jail followed by five years of supervised release.

Rana was convicted for providing material support to LeT and for backing a "dastardly" plot to attack a Danish newspaper but not convicted for the Mumbai terror attack despite being a close associate of Headley.

The only reason David Headley and Tawannur Husain Rana aren’t swinging under ropes in a prison in India is because the US is providing sanctuary to these terrorists. Such a shame.

I say give 'em to them, as long as they don't do this: "OW!", or this: "Umph", or this: "GASP!", or this: "blub.. blub..." to them.

You want I should demonstrate that again?

14 years in a US jail for causing the deaths of over 200 people.

US “justice” is a funny joke.

Extradition..an interesting topic.Yes,there's a case to be made in favor of civilized nations being careful with certain requests and with requests from certain countries.I'd never support an extradition request from Germany for return of someone who denies the Holocaust,in spite of such denial being *beyond* stupid and irresponsible. But it's a crime in Germany...and that's stupid too.Ditto *any* requests from Communist China. And ditto requests from Iran for return of someone who "blasphemed the profit" (misspelling intentional).OTOH,many countries...including Canada,Mexico and most of Europe won't extradite anyone to us who might be subject to the death penalty.I'll save my thoughts on *that* particular subject.

India is a friend of the US.And although she must be classified as "Third World" my sense is that she has just about the most civilized and reliable justice system in the Third World.Mumbai was an outrage and those actually responsible should swing from a rope.

But remember two things,"James", 1) a member of our current President's cabinet has classified veterans of the US Armed Forces as being potential domestic terrorists (I kid you not) 2) our current President represents nobody but his fellow trust funded Maoists (of whom there are many here) and lazy parasites, some of whom actually speak English (rather than Spanish,Arabic or Bantu).

What else can be expected when a lot of authority for the affairs of the al Qaeda-linked Muslim Brotherhood comes from the Obama White House!
