Meteorologist Warns Of Major Tornado Outbreak Friday Night In Oklahoma

MAJOR TORNADO OUTBREAK IMMINENT!!! (Please Share)

I don't often get worked up over events. There are times when all of the parameters are there and very little happens, generally because the models underestimate the CAP strength which prevents thunderstorm development. You better pray they aren't estimating this one correctly because the rest of the ingredients are all there for large damaging tornadoes between the hours of 6pm and midnight across C OK.

Prepare all you want, I never said one should do otherwise. All I said is the weather reporters have been hysterical in their forecasts over the years, screaming death and destruction for some pretty trivial storms. This appears to be another hysterical forecast of what is an otherwise normal weather event for the season and location.

Regarding the "hysterical" part, this appears to be another FR reply by someone that doesn't know what they're talking about.

Regarding the "normal" part this depends on one's definition of "normal." EF3+ tornadoes are indeed "normal" in Oklahoma when one takes a year-by-year perspective.

However, a PDS tornado watch and the tornado parameters for today are not something that's routine in Oklahoma any given day in May or June.

I agree about the hype but this is like the Moore day, storms going up quickly and is a dangerous situation. Typical for our area this time of year but Okies are most educated about weather and have the very best meteorologists and chopper guys.

I really don’t think that it is ALL hysteria...sure some is ,but with better technology, more folks storm spotting and better accurate forecasts, I think that providing coverage of an event such as this, even if it is no surprise because this is the season and location for it, can do some good. I know many folks that would not take warnings seriously because of the cry wolf syndrome. Now they can watch it live and KNOW a tornado is actually been spotted. It may be trivial to you, but those in the path of these storms might think a little bit differently than you...

NWS Norman ‏@NWSNorman 18s 414pm - watching convergence area Caddo and Comanche counties. Winds have turned more SE-ly and increased. More favorable for tornadoes.
