Silly symbolism? Check. Emotion vs. reasoning? Yup. Must be another celebrity-backed political push. A gaggle of actors, including Rosie Perez, John Leguizamo and Julianne Moore, have signed on for the Fedoras for Fairness campaign to promote amnesty-style immigration reform. The fedora is a unisex fashion symbol for "women's multiple roles and identities," according to the group.
The politically charged photo series shot by Albert Watson features not only those actors but also Cynthia Nixon, Christy Turlington Burns, Sherri Shepherd, Debi Mazar, Bobby Cannavale, Judith Light, Billy Porter, Ellen Barkin, Wyatt Cenac, George C. Wolfe, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Lucy Punch.
Fedoras for Fairness also released a video featuring testimonials from said stars:
Christy Turlington Burns (When my mother was eight years old, she immigrated to Los Angeles from El Salvador) and Julianne Moore (My mother immigrated to the United States from Scotland in 1950, when she was ten years old).
The group wants the immigration reforms going through Congress to provide "a pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants."
What's missing, of course, is a pragmatic discussion of what unfettered immigration could do the country's economy, not to mention the possible security issues that could result from a sudden influx of immigrants. Proponents of open border-style policy love to mix legal and illegal immigration together as if they were one and the same. Emotion, as is so often the case in Hollywood-based efforts, is meant to trump sound debate.

Mexico does not support Open Borders for those south of ITS border.
F*** the Reconquista.
My hubby is British. Maybe we should be donning a Yorkshire pudding on our heads or a red telephone box. /s

I’ve never heard of 90% of those “celebrities.” The only names I know are Rosie Perez and Julianne Moore.
Those hats are for a$$holes!
She needs a bigger hat....it’s gonna fall right off her Afro, perched on top like that.
A$$hats.
Fedoras? We don't need no stinking fedoras!
“Fedoras? We don’t need no stinking fedoras!”
Zoot suit riots vs Clint Eastwood’s serape. Those generalissimo uniforms are pretty cool, too.
