People want to rationalize to keep from having to make a stand, “well in my area...” or “I know some people who are XX and they don’t bother anyone”

You've mis-characterized what I said. I also don't appreciate how you've implied that I wouldn't take a stand against homo scout leaders escorting my sons on camping trips. As a volunteer leader I have communicated with local and national BSA leadership to express my strong opposition to gay scouts who will seek to be scout leaders. Are you in a leadership position in scouting? Do you volunteer?

As I said before, I know BSA's leadership will eventually cave and allow homos to be in charge of the post-pubescent boys that many of them seek. That's when most volunteers will leave and pull their kids out of scouting to keep them safe.

But let's not make our enemies 10 feet tall. Gays represent about 3% of the population. A vanishingly small portion of those that consider themselves gay are aged 6 to 18. Further, only a sliver of that would be interested in scouting and interested in proselytizing at the behest of their gay activist parent/guardian. The kids that I volunteer to lead are sponsored by our church, which opposes homosexuality and, frankly, a Cub Scout has little interest in sexuality at any rate.

I am absolutely convinced that this is the beginning of the end of scouting, and yes, I'm pissed off about it. But for now, the bottom line is that, unless you're in a homo-rich environment, your kids are more likely to get hit by a meteorite that get hit on by a fellow camper.

I agree with a lot of what you said! It saddens me too. In Utah, I don’t really think there will be a large problem, at least for now. Most scout troops and councils are run through the prominent churches. (both the Mormon church and R. Catholic churches and others are running scout programs)Most leaders (men and women in both org.s) are still pretty much conservative family people.

And like you said, most the volunteers are still family-church-faith oriented people. Oh Utah has it’s far-left freaks here and there. (especially Salt Lake City, strangely)And yes, I’m aware that even in the churches there are people who pretend to be upstanding members and are actually creepy in private! But for now, most scouting is still run and volunteered by fairly conservative concerned citizens and leaders.

In our Roman Catholic parish, one of our deacons runs the BS troops through the parish! We had a lady who once ran (and maybe still does) a GS troop through the parish. I don’t know what they’re going to do. They have scouts in uniform present at Sunday Mass services, and have their meetings there too! I’m wondering if some of the older scouts will be aware of anything going on when they are at camps. I’m hoping they(in parish and in other places) will be watching over the younger boys to make sure there is no funny business!

They might be even more aware now, and will assist the leaders in keeping their eyes on younger and other older boys to be sure things don’t happen! Many of them are older brothers who watch the younger ones anyway. That might go a long way to reassure the parents who are not able to be there!

Yes, I was a scout. I was a den leader from Tigers up to Webelos for 5 years. I was also the Pack Leader for a 50+ boy pack.

Once you let the camel’s nose in the tent the whole camel will follow. The greatest mistake made was people (maybe not you) to take a stand no matter who small against these interlopers in all of our programs.
