SAN FRANCISCO
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will pay $81.6 million after pleading guilty on Tuesday to criminal charges of improperly disposing of fertilizer, pesticides and other hazardous products that were pulled from stores in California and Missouri because of damaged packaging and other problems.
The retail giant entered the plea in federal court in San Francisco to misdemeanor counts of violating the Clean Water Act and another environmental law regulating pesticides. The fine also settled Environmental Protection Agency allegations.
In Kansas City, Mo., the company pleaded guilty to improperly handling pesticides.
The plea agreements ended a nearly decade-old investigation involving more than 20 prosecutors and 32 environmental groups that has cost Wal-Mart a total of $110 million.

The state investigation began eight years ago when a San Diego County health department employee saw a worker pouring bleach down a drain.
Whiny liberal voice/off
They can afford it. /s
Most likely the result of improper paperwork, more than anything else.
By impoper not having “It’s” dotted “T’s” crossed and a misspayling or too.
Fertilizer......dumps in the sewer every day as run off from lawns.
Pesticides.......same.
Bleach? Every day in every household.
Just looking for a cash cow.
Bleach down a drain? You mean like what happens when you wash clothes or do a million other activities.
Exactly, every one of the products was made to be sprayed or spread outside on people’s gardens. What a huge waste of time and money.
8 years of govt work and 110 million fine sure pays well. Wonder if the govt every thought for a second how people wash clothes and take care of the yard.
A reprimand and written promise not to repeat would have worked 8 years ago. 110 million dollars is what this is all about.
When you look at the damage, the most damage is the Goverment setting insane confiscatory fines.
Time to flush Congress, the bowl is full.
Yep.
She likely was a shopper, a union employee and started the mess.
Whatever. I still detest WalMart.
Wally-bashers will be happy. Can’t wait for the “Chinese crap” comments from the usual geniuses.
Importing Chinese hazardous waste at bargain prices!
It took 9 mins and 39 seconds for the Chinese crap post. LOL

Bwahahaha! “Hazardous waste”!
Back in mainframe days, we had a full-time customer engineer (CE) on site. One day, I come into work and the CE is unpacking boxes and shelving bottles of print-train oil (don’t ask), various solvents and inks and so on. Some containers get “hazmat” stickers but most get replaced.
I asked CE what the **** is going on and he tells me that the stuff is now “hazardous material” has to be labelled.
A few hours later all the “hazardous materials” are shelved and logged in to the records. CE takes the box of old containers, all full, out back and heaves it in the dumpster.
*snort*
(I still have a can of IBM keypunch oil around somewhere. Geeze, what a geek!)
Congratulations! That wins you the worst posted sentence of the year award for 2013.
