Kevin Rudd's gay turn denies facts on same-sex families
The Australian ^ | May 25, 2013 | Christopher Pearson

ON Tuesday, Kevin Rudd declared himself in support of same-sex marriage. He told us that, after deep reflection, he found he was able to reconcile his religious faith with his secular ethical principles.

His last line of argument was that: "30 years of research has seen the Australian Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association acknowledge that same-sex families do not compromise children's development". But Rudd hasn't kept up to date with recent research and his claim is misleading.

Last July, in the journal Social Science Research, Mark Regnerus published a large-scale study comparing children raised by homosexual couples and those raised by married parents. It found many significant differences between the groups, with outcomes for the former rated "suboptimal" in almost every category. Published in tandem with Regnerus was a paper by Loren Marks analysing 59 previous studies of lesbian or gay parents and their children.

Most were what is politely referred to as advocacy research by activists. Almost all of them lacked large, random, representative samples either of same-sex parents or married parents and their respective offspring. Only four of the studies met the American Psychological Association's own standards by "providing evidence of statistical power".

Regnerus and Marks have withstood predictable, ideologically motivated attacks and repay close attention.

In writing this column, I've also drawn on a condensed summary of their findings on the Family Research Council website by Peter Sprigg.

Regnerus surveyed adults aged 18-39. While the data he obtained could hardly be considered entirely objective, there's a strong case for arguing they're more reliable than parental self-reports.

Hey bro from Kangaroo Land Down Under, hail.

This was pretty obvious to anyone with reasonable knowledge about how the world works. My guess on the next step in the homo crowd is either claiming it varies from country to country or blaming it on the new bogieman of “homophobia.”

For the latter, a second look into the data, as to whether things are worse depending on whether society’s disapproval is great or not, will probably affirm what has already been seen in individual lives... lax attitudes in society mean WORSE outcomes. Not better ones. It’s better for the homos to be surrounded by “homophobes.” Another theory down the toilet for them.

This ole Spirit Redneck knows this homo stuff hails from hell, though. That’s really down under, not just jokingly like they speak of Australia, which is no more disadvantageous a piece of the world than the USA or Europe is.

Put another kangaroo filet on the barbie will ya for me....

So far as I can tell, sociologists have been reluctant to investigate the matter, maybe they don’t want to know the answer.

All these people who “change their minds” are just waiting to find stuff they can rationalize away a total 180 turnaround with. These people just want to change their mind regardless of actual facts and biblical teaching, they’ll find whatever they think “works” and use that as the excuse. Fact is, they just want to support gay marriage and whatever prop they can find that makes them appear enlightened to the secular world, they’re totally comfortable with it.

Tell me why anal sex is sacred, Kevin? Explain why you believe it’s God-pleasing behavior for a man to do that to another man. Explain to me why anal prolapse and living the rest of your years in diapers is a God-intended blessing. Explain where you find God expressing any approval of same sex marriage?

Kevin Rudd is a lost man. Shame this is what he put higher than God. Cashed it all in on gay marriage. Disappointing.

Well, the good thing to take away is that Kevin Rudd is no longer my Prime Minister and his party will probably be smashed in our September election. Perhaps people are waking up.

I suspect that if you "follow the money" you may find another, more shallow reflection and motive for reconciliation.
