Slightly off-topic, but why do I see “God” as “G-d” around here so much?

I do it in deference to my Jewish relatives and friends. For more information regarding the printing, or speaking the Lord's name consult the Torah (Exodus). Falls under the "craven image," and "taking the Lord's name," sections of the Ten Commandments (numbers one and two).

I never heard of a craven image, I believe you mean a graven one.
