HAMPTON The Hampton Coliseum Spring Carnival has been canceled following nearby shootings Saturday night that killed at least one teen and injured four others.
Hampton police officers and members of the Hampton Fire and Rescue Division found 16-year-old Ralphael Davis Jr. lying in the road in the 1900 block of Coliseum Drive shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, according to Hampton police spokeswoman Mary Shackleford. Davis, who suffered a gunshot wound to his upper torso, was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m., Shackleford said.
Officers located four additional victims in parking lots adjacent to hotels in the 1900 block of Coliseum Drive, who were also transported to a local hospital.
Shackleford said a preliminary investigation indicated a verbal altercation took place between two groups of individuals. The altercation escalated when the suspect or suspects displayed a firearm, discharging multiple rounds, which struck the victims.
This years shooting wasnt the first for the Hampton Coliseum Spring Carnival, Hampton police spokesman Jason Price said. Shots were fired as the carnival was closing for the night one evening last year, but no one was shot, he said. Price said he was unable to verify Sunday if there were any shootings at the carnival before last year or if this is the first year the carnival was canceled due to violence.
The 10-day annual carnival, which has been held for more than 35 years, opened Thursday and was scheduled to run through June 2.
Coliseum Director Joe Tsao said annually the carnival draws from 25,000 to 30,000 visitors, and is a revenue generator for the city both in terms of direct spending at the carnival and indirect spending with the area merchants.

“How is it that Holder’s people seem to be able to find ammo?”
Ever see blacks at the range? When? How many?
Often the black Urban Feral gets the gun and shoots it in the hood a few times, if at all.
However, In Far South Miami-Dade County, FL a shoot house was discovered which was used by Scumbo and friends.
Was.
Find? Probably stolen, just like the firearms.
