More likely the fault of a Rat controlled House than of Ike for the vulnerability of this specific bridge. The legal fault for this accident should fall on the shipping company who misrouted the load, unless they can show the driver didn’t follow their routing advice. Yes the driver should have seen the warning sign, but ideally he never should have been at the warning sign. I’m presuming height, width and load limits of permanent features are readily available to shippers; if not we could be dealing with another government failure. The height limit on that bridge must predate the internet. There should be affordable commercial software into which truckers can plug in load size, origin and destination that would flag problem areas and route around them. It would just require the normal GPS database plus size/load (and perhaps some other) limits. It never could be 100% up to date for road construction, etc. but should still avoid a lot of problems.
