I cannot remember where I read FDR was very close to unknowingly naming a Soviet agent (spy) as his Sec State; might have been “The Shield and the Sword” by Vasili Mitrokhin (former KGB officer). At any rate, the ‘30s and ‘40s US/UK governments were likely thoroughly penetrated by the Soviets; from the Cambridge Five to the Rosenbergs. Maybe even the early CIA; read “A Wilderness of Mirrors” by David C. martin. This ebbed with the advent of the ‘50s cold war and yet took off again with the tumult of the ‘60s and continues to this day.

Regards from old Camp Red Cloud, the Chorwon Valley, and the Imjin Gang.

Pat Buchanan wrote a book recently about our involvement in WW2 being unnecessary. Did we do Iran’s dirty work in Iraq? Both countriesare now run by shites.

John McCloy was involved in several policies that lead folks to that conclusion ~ that he was working for Stalin. One involves bombing rail lines leading to Auschwitz ~ he didn't, yet US bombers flew over the camp every bombing raid.

The other was his bombing list for using nukes on Japan. The field commander narrowing down the list elected to NOT bomb the ancient Japanese capital of Kyoto ~ yet McCloy seems to have been involved in putting Kyoto on the list. He also got involved in sending Japanese-American children and women to our own concentration camp system ~ which he might even have thought up on his own.

Seriously, FDR already promoted the guy!~

My father was threatened with court martial for sedition for discussing this stuff with other G.I.s. He shut up.

He was an interpreter/translator with German POWs at a camp in Florida. The prisoners were telling him what a mistake we were making with our “allies” in Russia. They told him that we should allow Patton to lead them (the Germans) to chase the Soviets back into Russia. This was around 1944.

FDR was warned....so was Truman; they didn't care.

Checkout "Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy."

Hiss' damage wasn't caused by the information he revealed....it was his effect on policy (see Red China becoming Red China for example)

The powers that be knew all along via the VENONA Project in which we were decoding Soviet transmissions that indicated Hiss (and others) was guilty.
