The death toll from an attack on Indian politicians by Maoist rebels has risen to 23, a day after the rebels fired at a convoy of cars carrying local Congress Party leaders in eastern India.
Suspected insurgents fired at the vehicles Saturday in the Sukma area of Chhattisgarh state. Dozens of people were wounded in the attack.
Local reports say some senior party leaders were among those killed. The Associated Press reported Sunday that several more bodies were found near the scene of the crash Sunday, including those of a party leader and his son who had been believed kidnapped.
Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi has condemned what she called an attack on India's democratic values. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has vowed that the government would take firm action against those responsible for the attack.
The rebels have been fighting the central government for more than four decades, demanding land and jobs for tenant farmers and the poor.
Seems there should be a few other alternatives...
When asked to comment, Anita Dunn said Mao was still her favorite political philosopher.
That was mistake. You can slaughter ordinary people all day long, but kill members of the elite. I’ll say the Maoists are in for it now.
Nope. You’re wrong. For a variety of reasons the Muslims of India are better assimilated and better socialized than any in the world.
Whenever there are Muslim terrorist attacks in India, they always have to smuggle in Pakistanis to commit them.
“Seems there should be a few other alternatives...”
If someone is at war with you, you have no choice but to go to war. That’s what we are refusing to face with Islam.
Why I hate being “red” now. We need to switch back to blue.
Thanks BlackVeil.
The Indian communist guerrillas are called the Naxalities and are very well organized, much like their counterparts in Nepal who literally defeated a corrupt royalty led government.
They control vast swatches of land and jungle, and unless the Indian Army mounts a major intrusion into these areas, the Communists will remain intact and effective.
not yet, both for your overt statement, and the intended meaning.
"1. Mao Zedong (49-78 million deaths)"
There are many more references to support his #1 ranking...
