What "contract" might that be? I was a SM for LDS troops twice and was never aware of such a thing.

Simply put, the LDS sanctioned the move made by BSA and that is why the membership policy change occurred. LDS Scouting is a "hollow" organization because they pay membership fees for every youth of Scouting age on their rolls regardless of participation in either church or Scouting.

Too much money involved for BSA not to get the LDS's "blessings" on this move. Money that BSA doesn't have to spend supporting hundreds, if not thousands of other units and that can be spent on exorbitant salaries and idiotic ventures like "the Summit".

This is why the BSA National President, a mormon, went to SLC personally and in advance of the vote that ultimately changed the policy...

Something about standing and falling comes to mind...
