Gene did the Dining Around show every weekend.
He loved food and wine and always looked like he did too much of both.

Yup and KGO fired him last year. He did not retire. Some of the crew ended up over on 910 and for a long time would say they were just sitting in for Gene.
He will be missed at least on the local foodie scene....not so much on politics
