Good point, it is why almost everyone is ignorant about at least one area, or some areas of the world, the media just makes it too difficult to make out what is going on, so we see the stories for decades of our lives, but remain confused or uninterested unless something triggers our interest enough to make the effort to penetrate the fog of the American media and delve into the region, or conflict to unravel the details of the differences and the players.
It is absolutely bizarre for the United States to become involved. That conflict is evolving as a civil war between competing Muslim radical fundamentalists. If we aid the “rebels” and they win, they will in turn will fight the US with the very weapons and training we gave them. Have we learned nothing from our twenty five years of involvement in Afghanistan?
And it seems like Russians are using Syria and Boston as a pretext to genocide Chechens in Dagestan again:

It adds credence to what Assad has been saying that these are outside foreign military forces .
This means that this is not an internal civil war matter .

If they are using the conflict as a vehicle to kill muzlims...whats the problem?
This has a whole lot to do with the present control of the U.S. government and military supporting Sunni Islam versus Shiite. Think back through the saga of the last five years, bowing to Sunni Saud, strengthening the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood in the so-called Arab Spring, and now enabling Sunni insurgents to fight against Shiite Alawite Assad who is supported by Shiite Iran. It is no coincidence that Indonesia is a major Sunni Islamic nation. Connect the dots.
