'David Cameron yesterday tore up an order banning troops from wearing their uniforms in public that was issued in the wake of the Woolwich attack.
He is understood to have told Defence Secretary Philip Hammond he was seriously dismayed at official guidance given to personnel in London following the murder.
As the row raged in Whitehall, troops and their families posted pictures of themselves in full uniform online, in defiance of the ruling from the Ministry of Defence.
Insisting that the ban be rescinded, Mr Cameron told a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee in Whitehall:The best way to defeat terrorism is for everyone including our brave service personnel to go about their lives as normal.
The dressing down was a blow for Mr Hammond, who is understood to have agreed that the uniform ban should be implemented.'

Now will he man up, and authorize the issuing and carrying of sidearms in public?
Put the uniform on and issue them their weapons!
Wrong, Dave.
Actually, just give them their swords.
That was one of the few moments in the last couple of years that Cameron stood up and did something.
Positive move.
But, its just not the UK that has problems dealing realistically with Islam. In the US, the so called conservative GOP has many pro-Islamic types, especially fundraiser Grover Norquist (who is a supporter of groups tied to Islamic Terrorism). Even GW Bush many times used the Dhimmi phrase “Islam is a Religion of Peace”
Until we deal with Islamics realistically... we will always have problems with Islamic Terrorism
“That was one of the few moments in the last couple of years that Cameron stood up and did something.”
That’s because Cameron has Nigel Farage, head of the right nationalist party UKIP that is rapidly gaining popularity in the U.K. breathing down his neck.
Thanks the scotsman.
The victim wasn’t even in uniform.
Here in the states I would have no problem with seeing military people armed and in uniform going about their daily business.
They are trained soldiers. let them go armed when in uniform.

Agree. When it comes to saving a life , any and all means should be utilized.
Actually... many US installations stateside frown on troops wearing military uniforms off-post or off-base...it has been that way for decades...unless they are on a specific duty requiring them to be in civilian sector
gads that bringsback memories of we Reservists being told we couldn’t wear our fatigues in public on drill days because it would terrorize the public.............really stupid
I love Nigel Farage!!!
“The best way to defeat terrorism is for everyone including our brave service personnel to go about their lives as normal.”
Hmm, is that why terrorism is defeated? I’m not sure we should listen to people like Cameron on this issue.
Excellent....
Sometimes that may be the case but here in Hampton Roads, VA where we have lots of military, it’s really left up to the individual...
We got lots of troops in unie on the beach...
By the way, the spittle came from critters that are now in charge of the RAT Party and our government.
