House Republicans pushed through a bill Wednesday to bypass the president to speed approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. Democrats criticized the legislation as a blatant attempt to allow a foreign company to avoid environmental review.
The bill was approved, 241-175, largely along party lines.
Republicans said the measure was needed to ensure that the long-delayed pipeline, first proposed in 2008, is built.
"This is the most studied pipeline in the history of mankind," said Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., the bill's sponsor.
"When is enough enough?" added Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif. "Five years? Six years? Ten years?"
But Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., called the bill a "reckless attempt to avoid environmental review." The bill would deem the project approved without a presidential permit, as required under current law, and with no further environmental review. The legislation also would limit legal challenges to the project.
The White House says President Barack Obama opposes the bill because it would "circumvent longstanding and proven processes" by removing the requirement for a presidential permit.

Anybody know if Reid will let it come up for a vote in the Senate?
Yep, and the House also voted to REPEAL ObamaCare MANY TIMES.
What happens when this bill (or any bill passed by the House) reaches the Senate where Harry Reid is still the majority leader?
It doesn’t matter how much it’s been studied.
Liberals hate fossil fuels. Nobody wants to come out and say this, but, liberals don’t want a pipeline carrying oil.
If a pipeline could somehow carry wind and solar power, such pipelines would be okay.
It think is absurd, that, also, liberals won’t let us build any nuclear power plants. Nuclear produces zero of those “greehouse gases” liberals are concerned about.
Arguably, we are generating more electricity from coal fired power plants, and increasing their dreaded greenhouse gases, than we would be producing if only the liberals would let us build nuclear plants.
But in the zero tolerance world of the liberal, zero tolerance for anything related to fossil fuels, and zero tolerance for nuclear, overrides any common sense, or critical thinking about how we should generate energy.
Follow the money.
I’m no expert on oil or energy; But I understand not all refineries can use this type of oil.
Who owns the refineries that can ?
“Follow the money.”
I recall having read that Warren Buffet owns the railroad that is transporting the goo in lieu of a pipeline. Sorry, I don’t have a link to provide.
BNSF is the railroad in question. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Buffet’s Berkshire-Hathaway.
And these devices have killed hundreds of thousands of birds.
If environmental wackos are truly against fossil fuels, they should stop driving cars, and ride bicycles and public transit.
But by the example of Al Gore, they would have to give up their private jets as well.
