A man suspected of staging a terrorist attack that left a British soldier dead near a military barracks in London, was caught on camera clutching a meat cleaver and knife in hands apparently covered in the blood of his victim, as he justified the violence as part of a jihadist-inspired fight against the west.
The incident happened in broad daylight, 400 metres from the perimeter of the Royal Artillery barracks, in Woolwich, south-east London, sparking a terrorist alert that saw the government crisis committee Cobra convene in emergency session. Hours later, David Cameron described what had occurred as "an absolutely sickening attack".
Witnesses said a man was hacked at by two assailants with weapons including a machete in horrific scenes, carrying strong echoes of attacks abroad, at about 2.20pm. It is understood that the victim was a soldier, although neither his identity nor profession was confirmed last night.
The two men remained on the scene, until armed police arrived up to 20 minutes later. They were shot and apprehended by armed officers and taken to two separate hospitals where they were being treated for their injuries under armed guard in the aftermath of the first al-Qaida inspired attack to claim a life on British soil since the 7 July bombings in London in 2005.

Not dead yet.
Dont write us off just yet.
Don’t worry. The Brits have a gun ban.
Jews weren't beheading people and blowing innocents up with bombs in pre war Germany. They were hard working people going about their business.
Muzzies are scum and have been begging to be exterminated the same way you exterminate a rabid dog that comes into your backyard.
And thereafter claim that it never happened
You are no worse off than many other western countries. I imagine this sickening crime can only help UKIP.
They are convening a “COBRA Committee”....which sounds threatening enough, that should deter any follow on or copy cat attacks.
Hope so.
The only real conservative party who reflect what many of us are for and against: anti-EU, anti-immigration, antiextreme Islam, conservative social values, no gay marriage (I support civil unions), strong military, strong Britain, strong law and order.
Thats what I and many British want.
We dont.
Bad gun laws? Absolutely.
All guns banned?. No.
This type of thing could become far more effective than the 9/11 style attacks in terrifying a populace. Remember the terror spread by two snipers in 2002? People couldn’t go to a store or gas station without wondering if they were in the gunsights of the snipers. People could feel safe at sorting events. Not anymore,,, not after the Boston Marathon attacks. Now if you go to a sporting event you have to suspiciously watch the people around you instead of enjoying the event. Big gatherings of people are to be avoided. Even that isn’t a guarantee you won’t be hacked to death by a muslim. The UK soldier was alone. No one can feel safe at anytime or anywhere.
Dont worry. The Brits have a gun ban.
Having a gun would help if a jihadi came up to you and said he was going to hack you to pieces with a meat cleaver and then gave you the time to pull your gun out. But they aren’t that stupid. You wouldn’t realize you were in danger until you felt a crack on the back of your head knocking you unconcious.
I would rather be hit in the head with a meat cleaver while carrying a gun, than be hit in the head with a meat cleaver while not carrying a gun. And, if the onlookers were armed with as many guns as they are with cell-phones and video cameras, the world would be a much more polite place and Mr. Perpetually Pissed-Off Muslim would not have as much time to cut off someone’s head.
with the "leader" we have in the WH even France would start fighting before we would.
yet we couldn't vote for Romney because he belonged to that murderous, head chopping off, women stoning, horrible Mormon cult..../sarcasm/
Amen.
Outrage over a video maybe?
I am glad to see that most of the major news outlets ARE carrying this story. It is getting attention ...not being buried.
Of course, the liberal response is out there for all to see, and believe, as usual.

I understand the lawful ownership threshold is extremely high and subject to the subjective assessment of the police. In the practical sense, guns in the UK are banned.
