A federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday that the U.S. government had properly classified top secret more than 50 images of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden taken after his death, and that the government did not need to release them.
The unanimous ruling by three judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected a request for the images by a conservative nonprofit watchdog group.
Judicial Watch sued for photographs and video from the May 2011 raid in which U.S. special forces killed bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, after more than a decade of searching.
The organization's lawsuit relied on the Freedom of Information Act, a 1966 law that guarantees public access to some government documents.
In an unsigned opinion, the appeals court accepted an assertion from President Barack Obama's administration that the images are so potent that releasing them could cause riots that would put Americans abroad at risk.

Shoots down the myth that what Osama preached wasn’t any shade of Islam. Too many adherents pose a threat of retaliation at seeing such sacred images displayed.
FUBO and your muslim religious ceremony you held for a vile evil man.
The abu ghraib photos were leaked by the uncle of one of the culprits after he was unable to secure a blackmailed light sentence for that culprit. The goal was to taint the Iraq war and cost GW Bush his re-election. The persons guilty of the offenses were already being prosecuted.
And the photos DID cause terrorists to flood into Iraq from other countries (the so called insurgency after Saddam was toppled).
I blame the NY Times which kept it on the front page for 30 days (yet nick berg’s murder barely got 2 cover mentions and 7 days coverage total, if I recall).
Yeh the secret non existent photos.
Funny how the Lame Stream Media wasn't prevented from releasing pictures of Abu Graib, Marines urinating on dead Taliban, pictures of Uday and Qusay Hussein, video of Saddam Hussein's hanging, pictures of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi after having a 500 pound bomb dropped on him, etc, etc, etc, in the name of preventing riots that would place Americans at risk!!!
I don’t get it. You’d think if the news can publish pictures of helen thomas, they should be able to publish anything offensive to anyone.
LOL - excellent point. They also didn’t have any reservations about posting pictures of Janet Reno. Or, how about Michael Moore?
Our courts have lost their minds. We’re letting a bunch of uncivilized muslims (is there any other kind?) dictate our policy? And the courts are OK with that?
