Immigration bill backers say not all back-taxes will be paid

The Senate immigration bills authors acknowledged Tuesday that their legislation does not require illegal immigrants to pay all back taxes, saying it would be too difficult to make them ante up everything they might owe.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, the New York Democrat who is chief sponsor of the bill, said illegal immigrants by definition are living in the shadows, and requiring them to reconstruct their pay history could be tough and potentially keep many of them from legalization.
We all realize that the system is broken. We all realize that people did wrong things. And the goal is to set this right by letting those in the shadows come out, Mr. Schumer said Tuesday as the Judiciary Committee plowed through more amendments to the 867-page immigration bill. The worry I have here is that by being as rigid
as this amendment is, that it will delay and prevent many, many people from coming out of the shadows.
The issue of back taxes is an emotionally charged part of the current immigration debate.
Mr. Schumer and the other members of the bipartisan Gang of Eight who wrote the immigration bill have said the legislation requires illegal immigrants to pay a fine and back taxes, and that is true up to a point.

No surprise that Chucky and his Gang believe that Sen. Lee's amendment to make illegal aliens pay all back taxes would make it too difficult to reward them with amnesty.

Same with cutting off the free stuff(tax dollars), cant do that as they would ‘stay in the shadows’.
Who could have predicted this?? Not Rubio.

Wow.
Good to be an illegal alien, huh Chuck?
A general amnesty for a laundry list of crimes, and best of all, you get citizenship...with no record.
Will he extend such privileges to the poor, pitiful citizens?
Or do we have to toe his line at the point of a gun?
Amazing that in American history, a massive group of criminals - foreign criminals at that - would have such privileges in law granted to them.

The suggestion that illegals would pay back taxes is absurd on its face.
Learn English ? Who cares.
To: jazusamo
They're supposed to let us know these things after the bill passes.

I sent a letter to each of my Senators ~ both Democrats ~ asking them to send me information about how I could become an official illegal alien. The purpose would be to select my high-two tax years and get a REFUND!
One answered me with a meaningless statement about helping out illegals. The other hasn't answered.
Maybe I should send a letter to Chucky!

Of course only those illegals here before 2010 are eligible for the Rubio amnesty.
Love to know how they plan to administer that one.

Why do most congressmen and senators feel obliged to represent the interests of everyone in the world except tha average, normal, patriotic, honest, hardworking, taxpaying American citizens?

So, the non-amnesty really is amnesty... the 14-year wait won’t really be a 14-year wait... the non-eligibility for government benefits is actually an eligibility after all... and all those back taxes... well...they aren’t going to have to be paid after all.
And Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio are staking their legacies on THIS?

Yep... the age-old question. Yet... in 20 years, when the last vestiges of America are finally erased from existence, those same sellouts will be scratching their heads asking how that could happen.

What if EVERY citizen “voluntarily” decided not to pay their taxes. Would we get locked up? Would we lose our homes, our cars, our bank accounts?
Tell me once more, why should I be a citizen of Acirema?

"Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio" are on the radio all over America spouting complete BS.
Time to shut 'em down.
Not only is Rubio toasted, Ryan has fallen on the fork.
