They're still called State Police in NY and SC where I now live. In fact, they're still called State Police in many states.

Where I live, Ignacio, CO, we have State Police, Sheriff Force, Town Police and the Southern Ute Police Force. Plus, just about everyone I know owns guns. Not much crime here.
