President Obama believed that opposition to his healthcare reform law would fade after the 2010 election, according to former Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine).
Obama courted Snowes support in an attempt to make the bill bipartisan. He assured her GOP opposition to the law would be short-lived, she said.
He thought the opposition to it would lessen after the [2010] election. I said, Its just the beginning. I said, Its going to grow because I can tell you its not going to go away and its going to get worse, Snowe said in a radio interview moderated by Julie Mason, host of SiriusXMs Press Pool.
Snowe was invited to participate in the new series, SiriusXM Leading Ladies.
Obama locked his attention on the centrist Snowe to the exclusion of other members of the Senate Republican Conference.
He invited her to the White House for a lengthy one-on-one meeting and later followed up with a half-hour phone call, according to a New York Times report from December 2009.
Snowe ultimately spurned Obamas entreaties. She voted for a version of the measure in the Senate Finance Committee but opposed it on the floor. The Maine senator told the president that public opinion would further sour because of the implementation problems, which would just exacerbate and aggravate the opposition and those who were opposed to it to begin with.
Snowe, who was one of three Republicans who backed the 2009 stimulus package, retired from the upper chamber at the beginning of this year.
He also thought that he was a real law professor, that you could run a superpower from a golf course steam room or courtside at an NBA game, that Jim Messina wasn’t creepy and that Michelle was a hottie.
Once again, this goes to show that on the most fundamental level Obama does not understand America.
“Once again, this goes to show that on the most fundamental level Obama does not understand America.”
That’s right; he understands the smaller number of “takers” while completely ignorant about the “makers” who make up the majority of this country. He did understand enough to get elected twice (though it is now official that he had some heavy-handed help for 2012).
If Snowe is that gullible, then it is time for the old Senator to retire, IMO. She is another who did not read or comprehend the implications of socialized medicine.
“...doesn’t understand America...” You mean all 57 states?
And never forget, it was HER vote that got us Obamacare. The Finance Committee adopted rules which required at least one Republican vote in order for the bill to advance to the Senate Floor. She provided that vote against all other Republican members saying it was her "feeling" that the President's bill "deserved" a full vote. Had she voted against the bill in committee, we would not have Obamacare today! She knew exactly what was going to be the end result and voted against the bill on the floor only for political cover!
She did retire. Got replaced by an independent (dem), so no real change.
and we can epect the RINO’s to keep doing the same things
Spot on. He is incredibly obtuse. After 5 years, there are so many of the same old straw man speeches and arguments. And if all else fails, the race card. He refuses to consider another point of view and refuses to listen to the opposition. There is never room for compromise with this guy, only my way or the highway. And wish he’d take the latter.
We need to repeat this over and over again. Stolen election. Disenfranchisement of millions. Completely illegitimate.
He thought that because he loaded all the “goodies” up front and backloaded the pain. Well, the time for the pain is here and no one is going to like it.
I have a liberal friend who voted for Obama and was very vocal about the need for Obamacare. Gueess what? Her work hours just got cut due to Obamacare. She’s screaming like a bansshee, but I have absolutely no sympathy for her.
“Obama thought”
Now that’s funny right there.
Post of the day.
He blames the IRS for not getting the opposition in prison fast enough.
Thanks markomalley.
Is she trying to change her Progressive legacy?
She helped give us Obamacare, what is this BS she is spouting now?
Don’t ever forget, this is the mother of Obamacare speaking. Her “swing” vote got it out of committee and onto then fully controlled Democrat floors of the house and senate? She owns this monstrosity.
Snowe, you are Yella!
Did you read a couple of lines down?
She didn’t vote for Obamacare.
