Tornados in Oklahoma are NOT unusual.

Maybe he meant that this is an unusually severe storm? It sounds as if it is, and it may not be over.

It makes people feel better and less frightened to proclaim natural disasters as unusual. This also leads to the various impulses to blame them on global warming, “God’s punishment” etc.

When Southern California is devastated by an M7.5+ earthquake, killing thousands of people, from a geological perspective, it will have been completely routine.

It was fairly easy to see this spring was going to be violent this year. We are in a decade long ocean driven cooling cycle due to the low solar activity from the previous sun cycle. However right now we have the second peak of the current solar maximum occurring. So you have solar energy being input into a long cooling trend. The violent activity was delayed because the cooling was so strong and it was just too cool for tornado formation. Now it is not. Multiple fatalities in Moore. They are not counting.

Tornados in Oklahoma are not unusual, that’s for sure. However, this is the 3rd major tornado to hit Moore in 14 years. This one took basically the same path as the devastating one on May 3, 1999.
