Our democracy is endangered. Not by the Russians, North Korea, the Iran regime, or even terrorists. To quote Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he is us."
Inside the beltway, the fingers point and the media tuts and struts in glee, and we, the American public, respond by becoming more rigid and divided ourselves. No more "truth springing from argument amongst friends," as David Hume said. A recent nonpartisan Pew Research Poll finds our knee-jerk partisanship has increased dramatically.
This road we're on will lead us step-by-step to an extreme: either an autocratic government that functions, or a dysfunctional anarchy. The petty squabbles, bilge in the name of party or principle, will dissolve our self-government.
Abraham Lincoln felt no foreign power could ever defeat the United States. He said, "From whence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some trans-Atlantic military giant step the earth and crush us at a blow? Never...No, if destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men we will live forever or die by suicide."
We're pointing a pistol at our heads. A government of, by, and for the people requires that people talk to people, that we can agree to disagree but do so in civility. If we let the politicians and those who report dictate our discourse, then our course will be dictated.
Why am I alarmed? Because two "scandals" -- the IRS tax-exempt inquiries and the Department of Justice's tapping of reporters' phones -- have become lynch parties. And the congressional investigation of Benghazi may become a scandal in itself.
The IRS scandal has sparked bipartisan outrage that should require a bipartisan solution. The director who oversaw this was a Bush appointee who was confirmed by a Democratic Congress.....

When a moderate Republican administration is in office, the left foams at the mouth. It is like watching a pack a rabid dogs tearing away at a lamb. All of the mainstream, “leftwing” media go at it with a vengeance, their excuse being that questioning government is their job. But let a leftwing radical get in office, and watch the corruption roll, while the leftwing media does all it can to help.
Screw sitting quietly by while the leftist media fails to do its job. Obama’s imperial government sucks, and it needs to be run out of town.
The problem here is, Donna, you are not my friend with which I can have a reasonable discussion. You and those you support with your “fundamental transformation” have stepped outside the bounds where reasonable discussion may be held. We have a Constitution that has a process for making such transformations but your approach is one of who believes they were elected to “rule”, like your soul sister Valerie Jarrett. You are welcome to conduct your discussions in a DC echo chamber among the radicals there but most of us believe we have better ways to use our time to remove the likes of your fellow travelers from the body politic.
Obama and the democrats are solely responsible for the deep division in politics today. And Obama has personally thrown gas on the smoldering fire in pursuit of his own agenda, and the country be damned. If Obama continues with his malicious brand of politics, and ignoring the constitution, he will be the owner of any bloody conflicts, and will destroy the democrat party forever. Just as Hitler led the Germans to their destruction, and the renunciation of German nationalism forever. Obama’s reign will become the historical embarrassment and the very image of abomination, proving once again what can happen when the people allow themselves to be led astray by electing a lying, evil person, hell bent on destruction. If there was a son of the devil, Obama would be him.

Let me take a stab at capsulizing your argument, Donna.
When it is a Democrat generated scandal let’s just skip to
the solution portion of the issue. When we are talking about
a Republican generated scandal let’s investigate it until the
cows come home and cast the widest possible net over the
suspects. When that is done we can execute all of the offenders.
Why choose just one. The Obama path seems to be autocratic anarchy. The trains won't run on time, but anyone can get the midnight knock on the door.
