I don't own or plan to buy a semiauto handgunThat is your choice, which I respect. My family (wife and daughters) and I own quite a few. They are fun to shoot and they are also excellent for self defense. They are not as easy to master as revolvers, but we shoot often. Reload time of a semi cannot be matched by a revolver. That is the major difference in self defense situations.
