California congressman David Nunes made the claim yesterday that the Justice Department wiretapped telephones in the House of Representative's Cloak Room, an exclusive part of the Capitol where members are able to privately interact with one another. Nunes made the claim on Hugh Hewitt's radio show.
"I dont trust the Department of Justice on this," said Hewitt, referring to the subpoenas the Justice Department to obtain the Associated Press's phone records. "Do you, Congressman Nunes?"
"No, I absolutely do not, especially after this wiretapping incident, essentially, of the House of Representative. I dont think people are focusing on the right thing when they talk about going after the AP reporters. The big problem that I see is that they actually tapped right where Im sitting right now, the Cloak Room," Nunes respond.
Hewitt was surprised. "Wait a minute, this is news to me," he said.
"The Cloak Room in the House of Representatives," Nunes repeated.
Hewitt again expressed surprise. "I have no idea what youre talking about," said the radio host.
"So when they went after the AP reporters, right? Went after all of their phone records, they went after the phone records, including right up here in the House Gallery, right up from where Im sitting right now. So you have a real separation of powers issue that did this really rise to the level that you would have to get phone records that would, that would most likely include members of Congress, because as you know," Nunes claimed.
Hewitt responed by saying, "Wow."
The entire admin think they are above the law. They will continue march jackboot across our freedoms.
How will DOJ prove that they didnt wiretap the cloakroom?..I’m not aware of that. I read it in the paper on Monday.
Didnt holder work in the clinton administration at one time?
Yes, he sort of organized Waco. Remember? The murder of totally innocent men, women and children? Could have been picked up in town any time?
As much as I don’t doubt its likelihood, has anyone confirmed this occurred?
Rather muddled.... this kind of sounds more like a supposition on Nunes' part, rather than an actual occurrence.
From your lips to God’s ears. Tell the media or they won’t notice.
Stick a fork in Obama...
More like stick him in a federal pen.
It would depend on how the media plays the story—if they suppress it or persuade the low-information voters that it is no big deal, then the Democrats may not make a fuss. They would figure that any information gleaned would be used against Republicans. On the other hand, they might be worried about the White House being able to blackmail them so they would toe the Obama administration line.
If it comes out that Obama did bug the cloak room phones, then that would mean he was listening on Democrats as well as Republicans. They aren’t going to stand for it. That’s why if this congressman has evidence of the bugging then he needs to produce it.
At this point we don’t know if the story is true. I wouldn’t put it past the Obama administration, but it may be impossible to find any evidence implicating Obama personally. There won’t be a written order or email or a taped conversation.
There was a time in our nation when this type of criminal conduct by public officials would have resulted in their tarred and feathered public hanging.
ooh... that’s not going to make anyone happy
Drudge has it now
Write him and tell him to put it in a siren
I haven’t found any news source that has proof that the phones in the cloakroom were actually tapped...only that the cloakroom phone numbers were listed among those taken by the DOJ.
Its not too late to continue the ritual.
> Holder must think he is J. Edgar Hover.
I bet he wears a dress and bends over when Obama comes over to visit too.
> Lets ALL get it right. This is no Watergate - Watergate was a joke compared to this.
And frankly, all of this pales in comparison to how the heck we even ELECTED this Kenyan or Indonesian. The BC story is real, it has not been resolved, and if you think its not, youve been wearing whole cloth.
If it weren’t happening before our very eyes you would think it was all from a Tom Clancy spy novel but this administration is so evil it’s worse than anything he’s eer written about.
If the MSM were even a tenth as competent as they pretend, this guy would be out of office by now.
