Obama calls IRS flap 'inexcusable,' announces resignation of acting IRS chief
NBC News ^ | 5/15/13 | Michael O'Brien

President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he was "angry" at IRS officials who inappropriately targeted conservative groups for scrutiny, announcing that his administration had sought and accepted Steven Miller's resignation as interim commissioner of the IRS.

"I've reviewed the Treasury Department watchdog's report, and the misconduct that it uncovered was inexcusable," Obama said in a statement at the White House. "It's inexcusable, and Americans are right to be angry about it, and I'm angry about it."

Saying he won't tolerate this sort of behavior from an agency, especially the IRS, President Barack Obama announces the resignation of the acting IRS commissioner and the implementation of measures to prevent such activity again.

The president said that he expected the IRS to act with even higher levels of integrity than other government agencies and that, to that end, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew had sought and accepted Miller's resignation — something many Republicans had demanded.

“Obama’s IRS denied conservatives the right to participate in the election and politics.”

If these organizations were organized for the purpose of participating in the election, then they should have been harshly scrutinized when seeking 501(c)(3) or (c)(4) status. Frankly, I think the scandal here is not that conservative organizations were harshly scrutinized (they should have been), but rather that liberal organizations were not.

It’s time for Barry to step down and go home to spend more time with his money.

Obama’s “I will not tolerate...” is akin to Clinton’s “I did not have sexual relations with that woman”.

The wheel wells are getting clogged up with the corpses, excuse me, corpse men and women, obongo keeps throwing under the bus.

Capital Hill is going to look like "The Highway of Death" before the summer is over. The blood and smoking carnage will make Marines queasy.

Let's ask Jay Carney (aka Benghazi Jay).

I love that the reference to Bagdad Bob is catching on. I had some suggestions for him:

Oblivious Jay

Detraction Jay

Fabler Jay

Mendacity Jay

The American people would gladly park a school bus with no wheels in their front yards if they could advertise for obama on it.

If Obama resigned, there would be mass weeping and gnashing of teeth in the public square. The American people as a whole truly believe in all that he peddles.

Apparently he was only in because the last one resigned. So me thinks Obama had this whole thing leaked out this guy is gone and they will appoint someone really bad in the position just in time for Obamacare. Obama does not get in trouble, Holdr will not get in trouble the guy who resigned will not get in trouble. the whole thing was orchestrated by Obama

... Steven Miller is now claiming that he’s leaving because his assignment ends in early June not because he was asked to resign by Obama!

MILLER said that? Do you (or does anyone else) have a link?

I've read Miller was leaving anyway, but the references outside of FR that I've seen are vague (for example, NYT said he was leaving, but no there's no direct wording in their article that his term was ending anyway.

If Miller was leaving anyway, then SeeBS (etc.) puffing this up into strong action by Obambi ("The President has fired the acting IRS Commissioner") is all the more ludicrous. It might even be "transparent" to some of the low information voters (we can hope?)

Ah, found it (Miller’s statement) elsewhere on FR:

They weren't just harshly scrutinized . what have you been reading cNN? they were shut out , intimidated with possible perjury charges, purposefully given practically impossible questionnaires to purposefully shut them . what are you defending the IRS on a conservative forum ?

you give yourself the name conservative? a person that is for freedom in the first place doesn't believe the IRS has even a right to exist much less to be able to harshly scrutinize Americans. but Obama’s IRS did more than harshly scruinize they purposefully imposed on conservative groups almost impossible burdens ,mentioning threats of perjury if they didn't fill out books of impossible questionnaires, all for the purpose of shutting them out of the election. that is tyranny, that is stealing the election ,that is democrats stealing the Senate and presidency and having more democrats in the House than would be if conservative groups would have been allowed to operate that were shut down on purpose by Obama’s IRS

this is tyranny. Obama's evil IRS shut out good conservative American people that just wanted to participate in the election and politics. and the IRS intimidated them with the force of a gun to take away their rights, and in the process stole the elections in the Senate and presidency. democrats shut us conservatives out and stole the elections
