I think the dye pack is a misunderstanding of the urea injection system on most new diesels. The special catalyst and urea injection treatments of exhaust meet much higher emission standards.
That could be. Didn't think about the new urea systems.

And I think the sensitive particulate filter is part of the same system. Also, untaxed diesel may be the high-sulfur variety, which messes up a lot of the newer systems.
