In my anthropology studies, I learned that labor was almost unaffordable after the plague.

Labor didn't become unaffordable due to the inheritances so much as due to the reduced supply which bid prices up.

Under feudal Europe, most of the people were so poor as to not be able to leave much of anything to inherit.

The bid-up in the price of labour made it more valuable and led to the rise of the middle class. Think of poor immigrants who initially left cities and factories in 19th century Europe where wages were poor, moved to American cities and factories where they were better and ofter moved even further west where labor was even in shorter supply and wages were better yet.

This is how we built our own middle class and why the elites seek to halt such growth by flooding the country with third worlders to bid down the costs of labor.

“A few libtards will even grudgingly acknowledge that technological advances which arose totally as an unconnected coincidence to capitalism means the earth is capable of supporting a much larger population now, maybe even as many as four billion.Isn’t that so enlightened of them? “

I believe you have put your finger on the reasons behind Planned Parenthood, the natural food (anti-GM) groups, the multiple EPA’s, the Sierra Club, George Soros...I could go on for pages...But the entire liberal pathology is to reduce head count...not them or liberals they know, just the unenlightened.

BTW

To liberals, the world is a closed system, if you get more, I get less. So, let's redistribute what we have.

They ignore the reality of human history. Malthus said population growth was exponential but food production increased arithmetically. But he was wrong. The industrial revolution opened new possibilities. So, Ehrlich ignores the facts and makes new predictions of human demise due to overpopulation that also don't come true. These days he denies he made any predictions, but at the same time says they will come true - someday.

The fact is average daily calorie intake per capita has been increasing worldwide since WWII, despite population increase. Even the UN admits global population will level off by 2050. And we know from experience in the West what will follow is population decline, which will probably be much more of a bad thing than good thing.

Libs also don't get that an economy, properly structured, will expand, floating all boats. It is not a closed system, either.

It is very chilling when you catch liberals talking candidly about population. They support abortion because it disproportionately impacts the poor and minorities - and limits the population. They casually talk about how nice it would be if Earth had a few billion people less. Of course, that wouldn't mean them, it would be those black, brown and yellow people "over there."

Sorta a retrospective ping

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

This author probably doesn’t account for how the scientific advances of the Medieval Renaissance were brought to a screeching halt by the plague.

Who knows how far our understanding of the natural sciences would have advanced had the major players not been killed off.

In my anthropology studies, I learned that labor was almost unaffordable after the plague. The survivors of the plague had inherited so much from all the relatives that died that they didn't need to work.

An in my studies I learned that anybody who wanted to work could get a job!

Crusades. Hundred Years War. The Catholic Church was a real paragon in the 14th century. A miracle Islam didn’t take over all of Europe then.

Not sure what you mean, the Plague (which were a series of outbreaks, killed a quarter of Europe) resulted in an explosion of capitalism and implosion of feudal relationships, more general literacy, and the Renaissance.

The problem with that is that war is a net destroyer of wealth. The Plague was like a neutron bomb- killed lots of people but left property mostly intact.

Actually, pesticide bans have had pretty much the same effect. When DDT was banned, malaria rates in Africa soared. This phenomenon was actually used as a talking point by proponents of the ban. The campaign against DDT is probably the single biggest act of genocide in all of human history.

How many really rich people out there might finance just such apocalyptic egos who want to “save the Earth” by lowering the population?

What did you think the Greens were about??
