Was there no conservative Republican who did not have a very public affair and marriage breakup?
To: mbarker12474
In the photo Sanford is surrounded by women. Astonishing.

The man fell in love. Maybe not in the best circumstances but when it happens I think all men are weak. It’s not like B.J’s in the Oval Office after numerous other bimbo eruptions. I don’t hold it against him.
To: Kaslin
He won’t come down with “Potomac Fever”, instead he will succumb to the “Argentinean Flu”...

No, he won’t. The only bad thing we know about Sanford is that he fell for another woman, cheated on his wife and lied about where he was. That is bad enough but it doesn’t even begin to compare to some of the crud piles we already have in power. Sanford looks like a saint compared to the current president and all too many others. He fits in like a naughty three year old locked up with career criminals. I would trust my life to Mark Sanford before I would trust Barack Obama or even John McCain with fifteen cents.

The beginning of the end.
The Republican party machine could not come up with a new candidate.

The man fell in love. Too bad he did not fall in the love with the family he publicly trashed, or with his obligations as a husband and father. People of character fall in love too, but they don't desert their children to satisfy their lusts. If this unprincipled person is conservative, I'll be a liberal, thank you.

Now how about we deal with the truth.
The man cheated against his wife whom he promised to love through good times and bad times until death due them part.
After having been exposed, he then refused to repent of the issue and continued on with the affair.
There is nothing honorable in what he did.
He lusted after another woman that wasn't his wife.

I hold it against him that as Governor, he left the country to fly to South America for a bootie call and lied to everyone in his office to his whereabouts.

The man fell in love.
No, he fell in lust.
From a personal perspective, it he gets right with God after his adultery, God bless him.
But from a political perspective, the Republican machine should simply have done the WORK of finding a NEW candidate. But they were lazy. It reeks of dirty deeds done dirt cheap. It causes me to question whether he is honestly repentent. It sounds like he's had a political career and just can't resist the attraction of it, that the idea of having a regular job or business bores him.
To see those women fawning all over him is a display that comes across as the height of idiocy.

I'm very pleased to find this rare occasion when I can inform YOU of something. 8>)
Mark Sanford did not enjoy the support of the SCGOPe or the National organization either. It's clear that SC-1 voters (Charleston area) selected him by 8 or 9 percent over his Dem opponent.
To: Moonman62
My feelings, exactly. I really liked Mark Sanford at one time (relatives in SC) and thought he might make a fine POTUS someday. That was
before he demonstrated that he couldn't control his zipper.
I'm glad he won only because it will give the far more treacherous DemocRATS one less talking point. But had I been in the district and the RAT candidate even somewhat conservative, I would have voted for the RAT or Libertarian.
I will also admit that it is a perverse sort of fun to see the RATS squawking about someone's extra-marital affairs.

As the delightful Star Parker says in her article...”Welcome back to Washington, Mark Sanford.”
This thread is sure to attract those who are bitterly disappointed that the Pelosi Democrat did not prevail over Mark Sanford despite the large sums of national progressive money thrown into the race.
Yet another reliable conservative in the House—let's keep it up.

Thanks for the info.
It would seem the next logical question is the list of his backers.
(i.e., not the electorate, but his backers).
Might be interesting to see...
