It’s the idea that a benign government of technocrats and academics can engineer near perfect justice at the trivial cost of liberty to most.

Accurate until the end. Obama doesn't care about the cost -- someone else is paying for it. That would be most of us. And he is more than happy with that -- in his thinking, it's about time we all got our comeuppance.

Never underestimate the power of resentment. Obama seethes with it. And he doesn't care who gets hurt.

His presidency may be “broken” but one accomplishment, his Affordable Care Act, has accomplished what he said from the beginning he wanted to do, transform America. He has firmly put America in the fast lane of the freeway to socialism where before we were on the lower speed limit two lane. I doubt we will be able to shake obamacare. Too many new hires. Republicans, save 2 or 3 will not countenance putting all those government employees out of work, no matter what they say about repeal. It will all come down to tweaking around the edges for the apparent benefit of this small constituence or that pressure group, just like with NHS in Britian. The economy must stay depressed because this law will be, already is beginning to be, a fatal drag on capital formation. It will have the government sucking 50% or more of GNP soon enough and we will not have the twenty year luxury of indulging in socialist fantasies with little apparent cost that Europe enjoyed because the US has financed Europe’a defense since WWII. To be sure our defense costs will decline because our economy will no longer be able to support them but they will still be far larger than Europe has experienced since 1945.

"An idée fixe is a preoccupation of mind held so firmly as to resist any attempt to modify it, a fixation. The name originates from the French [French : idée, idea + fixe, fixed]. Although not used technically to denote a particular disorder in psychology, idée fixe is used often in the description of disorders, and is employed widely in literature and everyday English." Hadn't heard it before so I looked it up.

Even his signature healthcare bill wasn’t his own creation but rather a compilation of ideas from lobbyists and Senators.

The author is too kind, the model for obamacare was and is romneycare and that is the reason it couldn't be an election issue.

A large majority already hated obamacare and the republican candidate couldn't say squat about it.
