If Syria has the stones to try and take the Golan Heights, good luck with that. Even if Assad used some of the chemical weapons he got from Saddam Hussein, all he'd do would guarantee his country becoming a black, fused-glass, smoking crater in the desert sand after the Israelis incinerated Syria.

“all he’d do would guarantee his country becoming a black, fused-glass, smoking crater in the desert sand after the Israelis incinerated Syria.”

Israel has been excruciatingly careful to never threaten the use of nuclear weapons. (There’s an exception I’ll get to.) Israel wants to avoid sounding strident like Iran, who daily threatens to turn Israel into molten glass. Israel wants to be perceived as the rational, professional player in a game of amateurs.

There are many reasons why Israel would not use nuclear weapons on Syria. They aren’t necessary. Israel has demonstrated time and again, it can hold its own against its neighbors with conventional weapons. Why poison the earth and arm the world’s anti-Israeli loony left with an infinity of reasons why Israel must be destroyed? Syria is in no position to attack Israel. It is an assassin’s bullet away from anarchy. It is in Israel’s interest to keep the Syrian conflict at a low simmer as the conflict is consuming Israel’s enemies.

That exception? An Israeli spokesman was assuring reporters “Israel will never be the first to use nuclear weapons.” Then, much lower and, presumably off mike, “It won’t be the second, either.”

It’s not a joke for the Israelis, alone facing 100 million Muslim neighbors, and no longer enjoying any reliable allies. I hope every American Jew who voted for, and worse, support the Won realizes what they have done before it is too late. I would hate for Israel to have to suffer for it.
