Ezekiel Emanuel, a noted oncologist, has helped advise the Obama administration in its effort to create an economic system larger than Frances economy to distribute health care services to over 300 million people. Together, those facts encapsulate the essence of our federal government: hopelessly overextended, devoid of caution and chock full of hubris. If that isnt succinct enough to signal the coming disaster that will be Obamacare, then Emanuels recent column in the Wall Street Journal should tip the balance.
Coincidentally, the column was about me, or, more appropriately, about a class of the peasantry to which Doctor Emanuel has assigned me. That group, which he calls Young Invincibles, consists of American men under the age of 35 who havent purchased health insurance and, worse, dont think they should.
In a refreshingly honest appraisal, Emanuel admits that Obamacare will virtually self-destruct if my demographic doesnt come to its senses. The program depends on the full participation of the American citizenry.....

When I worked for the Army I saw things I cold not believe. I was the OIC of a MEDDAC ER. I literally saw folks in the ER for paper cuts and broken finger nails. I am not kidding. What you propose is not going to be some subtle “go Galt” way of killing it, it will be folks who feel they deserve the “free stuff”. I am not kidding. One Sunday afternoon we were very busy and I noticed there was an E-7 in uniform in the waiting room. I really tried to move the Active Duty guys along and felt bad he had to wait for a couple hours. I apologized when I finally got to him (after having seen some 25 folks in the previous 2-3 hours. He had a garden variety tension headache. He needed Tylenol. I told him as much and he thanked me. I was really sort of “as the Brits say, gobsmacked.” I asked him, “Let me see if I understand this, you knew what you had wasn’t serious and that Tylenol would take care of it and you could buy a bottle at the PX for a couple bucks but you waited here in the ER waiting room for two hours or more?” He answered, “Yeah, it’s free here.”
Good luck with Obamacare. LOL. It was NEVER going to be what ANYONE thought.
We are about to drop health care altogether (already did dental) if premiums continue to go up. They did 25% January 1. We will gamble the
system will find some equilibrium that we can afford
My 8 yr old granddaughter said Obamacare should be renamed Obamadon’tcare
“Men under 35 dont need health insurance.”
I think ObamaCare will fold under its own weight when the tax base has become so small it can’t be sustained. Not only are a lot of young people u- or under-employed, but a growing number of young whites are imitating their urban counterparts and breeding without any intention of getting a job. It sustained our cities for 50 years; now it is being forced to sustain our suburbs (and illegals).
A brilliant child.
I never thought I would see the day when our country would be run by people who are far less smart than eight year-olds.
God, help us.
Not noticed by most of the pundits is that the fine for not buying Obamacare is nearly identical to the average yearly tax refund. And guess just who is in charge of the collections of the fine?
The IRS.
And that's the problem, right there.
They care about health benefits.
About health?
Not so much.
I had health insurance almost constantly from age 18 on but from 18 to 21 it was called free medical care in the Navy and from 21 on it was provided by employers at no cost to me. There was a short period when I was working for commission when I bought my own policy for a whopping eleven dollars a month. That was a major medical policy from Travelers and I was 26 years old at the time. At age 47, running my own business I had a policy covering my wife and me one hundred percent while in the hospital, no copays, for $113. a month. Now look what we have after all these years of government “improvements” in health care.
The problem is that people are too hard to insult now. I recall when it was a huge insult to call someone lazy, now it would be ignored. To call someone a liar was once tantamount to challenging them to a duel, even when I was a small boy if someone was called a liar a fight usually followed. Strom Thurmond’s father was said to have shot a man on the street in Edgefield, SC for calling him a liar. Now an accusation of lying is nothing. When people have no standards they cannot be insulted.
The House has voted to repeal it about three times now.
Brother of Rahm.
Does anyone find it odd the architects of Obamacare are saying it is a loser and offering solutions?
The real solution is not buying into what they by getting rid of the entire thing.
My son's teacher, 31, very healthy Army guy. He had a routine knee surgery. Developed blood clots (2). Developed blood infection. Then underwent surgery to put mesh trap near heart to prevent any clots from getting to heart. In the meantime, they discovered his gall bladder has several polyps.
He's been in the hospital for about ten days and counting. I can't even imagine what the bills are going to be.
Yes, but I don't think they have done it in this session, with some polls showing Obamacare is more unpopular now than ever before as the bulk of the sh*t is about to hit the fan this coming January.
This new repeal must come with a co-ordinated long-term GOP attack on Obamacare in whatever media the GOP can use, explaining why it was repealed to avoid a disaster and letting even the low-info types understand that the ball is in the court of the Senate 'rats and the Obama White House, and if they don't go along with the repeal, you, the American citizen, might well lose your employer coverage from work or lose your job altogether, etc., etc., etc.
Victory against Obamacare must be won!!!
Men under 35 should purchase cheap catastrophic insurance with a high deductible.
The Chief Justice could have saved Zeke the trouble if he had been decent enough to resist being blackmailed in last year's SCOTUS case an ruled appropriately that the individual mandate was unconstitutional.
Yes...that was a shocker for me.
Yes, now we’re the ones who should be insulted while we work our arses off and they do nothing. My children are learning nothing but contempt for such people nowadays (with the understanding that many people that want to work can’t find it).
It gets very expensive.
Hope things work out well for the guy.
