Predictions of the demise of Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio are a dime a dozen. That liberal wish has been a repeated incantation. But it’s more amusing when the demise talk comes from .... “Newsweek.”
Come again? Who’s yesterday’s news? John Avlon of the Daily Beast asserts Rush Limbaugh “Bleeds Millions From His Carriers as Toxic Talk Slumps.” Ahem, nobody’s bought Rush’s show for a dollar, like someone bought Newsweek. Avlon finds some guy whose newsletter has a Facebook page with nine Likes to insult Limbaugh’s audience as “all wearing Depends” – when he graduated college in 1968.
We're watching the end of right-wing conservative talk radio," says Jerry Del Colliano, publisher of the radio-industry tip sheet Inside Music Media. "The genre is dying among ratings and dying among advertisers ... Rush is at the end of his career. His constituency is all wearing Depends. And he's getting himself into trouble he doesn't need. So can you put Humpty Dumpty back together again? They have been able to improve their advertising picture, but they have not been able to come back.""Sandra Fluke was simply the lightning that struck and hit an old building that collapsed," Colliano says. "She didn't do it. She helped to bring it down at the end, but it was falling apart on its own."
...But the larger issue is the declining demographics of the right-wing talk-radio racket. Look at the millennial generation, says Colliano. Theres 80 million of them coming of age. They dont see color. They dont see gender. And theyre civic minded: they dont like bloviating. They dont like yelling and screaming. So you tell me: hows right-wing talk radio working for them?
As in the past, the aging right-wing talkersseveral of whom are represented by Limbaughs agent and brother Davidwill angrily dispute any decline in their profitability or ratings. Its all become part of their self-serving kabuki, but Colliano dismisses their reflexive playing of the victim card. They read the ratings the way they read the Gallup ratings right before the Obama victory. Its their metrics; its their way. But its not backed by fact.
It's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that radio programmers might look at Obama's re-election and wonder if conservative talk radio is still hot. But you can't trust people who keep saying this over and over -- and Avlon wrote almost the same article in 2011.
Dear Mr. Avlon: speaking of "toxic talk," never forget sitting in the middle of a Newsweek chat about how no one should ever give Dick Cheney a heart.
Rush is simply the modern Mark Twain who was also despised by the power and money-crazed politicians. Newsweek is simply the mouthpiece for those same greedy politicians. The career politicians, particularly the demrats, have become the robber barrons of today.
I noticed he was shilling for Hillary several months ago when he spent the greater part of a day trying to make the claim Hillary was lying to cover for Obama.
He portrayed Hillary as being a victim once again to the men in her life and she was having to lie to protect Obama the same way she had to lie to protect Bill Clinton.
Hillary wasn’t lying for Obama’s benefit any more than Hillary lied for Bill Clinton’s benefit.
Hillary lies for Hillary’s benefit, nobody else.
Now Rush is trying to push the incompetence angle.
There is nothing incompetent about this attack.
Hillary, with the backing of Obama, planned this attack.
Their circulation is zero. Newsweak’s last print edition was Dec 31, 2012. They’re an online only publication now.
I wonder how many unique hits they get a week.
The evidence and the facts speak for themselves.
There is no incompetence as Rush is trying to push.
Hillary planned the attack.
If true, left wing agitators and academics will make every effort to correct that.
I don’t know what you’re listening too but that’s not what I hear when I listen to Rush. Maybe you need to turn your hearing aid up.
Well, actually it’s from NewsBusters.org referring to Newsweak
There will always be a Rush as long as there are liberal lies to be exposed.
They don’t realize it but the liberal idiots are the Rush-enablers.
Not sure but it’s not even tracked weekly or daily because the traffic is so light. Here’s some info;

Screw em
“Hillary planned the attack.”
You ARE nuts.
They don’t like yelling or screaming? Has this guy not seen Jersey Shore?
Are stats available on talk show listenership? That’s where an intelligent response to the article must begin.
I think the conservative radio talk show hosts (I don’t see the TV ones) are overly repetitious and their analysis is obviously not balanced. Rush is still my favorite. Hannity’s show has it’s good moments. The whole Beck production team is too high voltage. I hate their bumper music. But I respect Beck’s brain.
Newsweek might have taken a look at the liberal talk shows also. Are there any now?
Maybe you need to listen a little closer.
Right now the dems are using a defense strategy that was developed to defend police accused of abuse and corruption.
It’s called the good faith, probable cause, honest mistake, plausible denial defense.
Hillary has been using this same defense for 20 to 30 years of Clinton scandals.
The incompetent angle being pushed by Rush fits in with the honest mistake defense.
Better to be judged as incompetent than a judged a collaborator.
Since I’m nuts, maybe you can explain to everyone exactly how the terrorist were able to plan an attack months in advance against a particular person on a particular day at a particular location without having Hillary guarantee that particular person would be in that particular location on that particular day.
Go for it.
I am a twenty year listener of Rush....and I would say it is all about demographics.....much the same for WABC in NY....the world is changing, and the younger folks, are too busy having a good time, to be concerned about tomorrow...a rerun of the 1920s....
Yes, but only because CON AIR was already taken.
Some do, some don't.
