CO2 buildup can kill you.
If your pH gets too high or too low, it is lethal.
CO2 must also be removed.
This is why some patients who require oxygen must have a setting to force them to breathe -- to eliminate CO2
In nursing, one learns about this -- a nurse must know about this.

I wonder how they might manage that - from what I understand, the lack of oxygen doesn't cause one to feel like their suffocating - it's the build-up of CO2. How much CO2 build-up does it take to cause damage if the O2 levels remain good?
The problem is that O2 saturation can fall faster than CO2 absorption increases, so when seconds count O2 matters most.
