The corporate media cannot but operate in this fashion, because they do not **really** sit above the basic rules of cause-and-effect when it comes to things political. They like to be **seen** as public truth-tellers unreachable atop Mount Olympus, but their organizations are just **players** on the field, just like they people and things they report on, as well as those they do NOT report on (who wield influence over them, to the point of intimidating them).
