There was that story a few years ago about a man in Austria who had a woman imprisoned in a basement “apartment” and had children with her. Then the one in Antioch California a year or so ago. There seems to be no shortage of nutcases out there.
Actually worse than that, if it's possible. The guy was her father, and she gave birth to half a dozen children who were imprisoned with her.

In the Marc Dutroux case in Belgium two young girls starved to death in their basement prison when Marc was imprisoned on another charge. Then it very much appears that powerful people in Belgium covered up aspects of the case, which is extremely disturbing on a number of levels. At least it doesn't (presently) appear that anybody in USA is likely to defend guys doing this stuff. If somebody tries and gets caught, he's on his way to jail or at minimum out of public life.
Though, as always, claims of conspiracy, even in Belgium which is sorta French, should be taken with a grain of sodium chloride.
