I'm afraid some kids are going to get used to being useless, and make a career out of it.
A skill is helpful. My sons are lifeguards.
Most of them are stupid enough to continue their bad voting habits as well.
And an increase in the minimum wage will make me; as a supervisor, want to hire a kid with absolutely no work experience WHY???
Who, but a low IQ immigrant, would be satisfied washing dishes at the age of 50 for minimum wage?
“washing dishes at the age of 50 for minimum wage”
Don’t knock it till you tried it! /sarc
My family went to dinner to a new restaurant this past weekend. After dinner the manager comes up to my 19 year old and asks her if she has a job. When she says no, the manager offers her a job as a host. They go off to talk, my daughter fills out some paper work and that was it.
She starts tonight. This summer she will be a camp counselor at her karate school. For both jobs she will make 17 bucks an hour plus tips. After taxes she will take home a nice chunk of change.
That pays for college.
Teens will just fall back on getting into trouble.
Who can blame them? You cant get work, and you don’t have anything to do because you have no money.
Sadly, you have hit the nail on the head. While there might still be hope that some kids will be raised right and have a work ethic, eight years of this Fagin in The White House has left too many with the idea that they are ‘’entitled’’ to be taken care of by the sweat of someone else’s brow. The damage this bastard has done to America might take years, if ever, to be undone.
God bless you. You’ve done your job as a parent well. Good luck to your daughter, she’s sounds like a smart young lady.
17/hour is really quite good these days for jobs like that.
This comes from an interviewer I’ve known a long time:
1 Show up for the interview on time, properly dressed and groomed
2 Pass a drug test
3 Demonstrate command of English and arithmetic on a sixth-grade level.
I’m told some eight out of ten 18-yr-olds can’t meet these requirements. Pretty scary.
Two words. “Midnight Basketball”.
I know a firm that has a hard time getting young guys for work on refuse trucks (pretty decent paying >$15/hr) because they can't pass the CDL drug screen.
Not having a criminal record helps, too ... and a lot of 18-year-olds end up with drug convictions, even if they’re minor charges.
Each job is $17/hour or the two combined are $17/hour? $17/hour for a host plus tips is pretty good pay.
I live IN South Carolina and totally disagree that it is hard for kids to find jobs in this state.
My kid has no problem at all..
The problem, as I see it, is that there are so many kids who are “unhireable” because they look like hippies, dress like hippies, have no respect, and dont have one ounce of common protocol standards
Teenage unemployment, huh? The Department of Defense hires at age 17, unless things’ve changed quite a bit... and guess what.. they pay for college too, when youve done your time.
