If she had used a different defense she could have been acquitted. All she had to do was say she was trying to rid the world of an MLM pest.
I hope you are wrong Nick. I know well you could be so right. Martinez does have one woman on death row he prosecuted. Of course she will spend her life on death row. Little chance of execution. The last woman executed in Arizona was in 1930.
She’ll be the fifth woman we have sitting on Death Row here in Arizona.
First degree felony is what I was hoping for. Thank goodness, Nick.
The fifth? They have been saying three this whole time. Thanks for the information.
What did that woman in 1930 do?
ADC# Name Ethnicity Time Date
7435 Eva Dugan Anglo 5:00 a.m. 02-21-1930

She killed a man and dumped his body in the desert.
Anglo is an ethnicity?
When they first started describing the crime, I thought they were talking about the Winnie Ruth Judd crime. But then remembered she did get out of prison eventually.
A former Alaskan cabaret performer, Dugan relocated to warmer climes, took a job keeping house for a reclusive, wealthy rancher.
After he axed her position, she axed the rancher, ransacked his home, stole his car, and fled to New York.
A mysterious teenage accessory, Jack, was never found. Eva was picked up and extradited after the missing ranchers remains turned up in a shallow grave.
The grizzled former frontierswoman she followed the Klondike gold rush in her youth took her fate nonchalantly.

I reckon in 1930, it was. Although, the DOC still uses it.
More:
After her conviction, in her final statement, she told the jurors, Wal, Ill die with my boots on, an in full health. An thats moren most of you old cootsll be able to boast on. She would remain defiant to the end.
Dugan gave interviews to the press for $1.00 each and sold embroidered handkerchiefs she knitted while imprisoned to pay for her own coffin. She also made for her hanging a silk, beaded "jazz dress", but later relented and wore a cheap dress as she was worried that her silk wrapper "might get mussed." She remained upbeat, so much so that Time magazine called her "Cheerful Eva" in a March 3, 1930 story about her execution.[1]
I did not know about the five husbands. I went to school with a girl who killed two husbands in the small town in which I was raised. She was abused by both. She got away with the first one. Shot him accidentally while cleaning her loaded shotgun. Then...she killed the second one...cleaning her loaded shotgun. Sheriff arrested her for that one. She served many years. Lives in Arizona now. Never remarried. Thank goodness.
I guess there would be some man out there willing to, but seems to me the risk is too great. Do you think that the death of her first husband was less justified than she made it out to be? I saw something about a woman in AZ who killed 3 husbands, and was never tried for any of them, because it was supposedly self defense.
Too bad. Now they can ignore the Benghazi hearings completely.
Has anybody talked to Alyce LaViolette?
I do not know if it was justified or not. I do know the people in town said both husbands abused her. But the same question always asked...why did she not just leave? The sheriff knew. He let her get by with the first shooting. Not the second.
