Two former Omaha police officers accused of criminal wrongdoing made their first appearances on Tuesday. A Douglas County Judge set bail for James Kinsella at $5,000, meaning the ex-officer must post $500 – or 10 percent – to be released from jail.

Kinsella turned himself in at the jail at 7:45 a.m. on a felony charge of evidence tampering and misdemeanor obstruction and theft. He is accused of throwing away a memory card containing video of the arrest of the Johnson brothers near 33rd and Seward Streets.

Glad to see that bad cops are actually facing consequences for criminal activity, and it's not being swept under the rug.

Just wannabe cops. Sadly, there’s thousands of them.

“Just wannabe cops. Sadly, there’s thousands of them.”.

Much like wannabe journalists, cooks, teachers, politicians, etc., this could be an endless list.

There are thousands of good cops who get judged by the actions of a few bad ones. Judge not lets YOU be judged.

(OK, I said my piece so now you can bring it)

If the officer is conducting himself in a proper and professional manner the video can make it look good for him.

If not dump the memory card down the drain.

What a waste.

That’s it? $500 bucks to get basically O.R.’d?

I wouldn’t be so lucky if I tampered with evidence and obstruction would be an additional charge asswould color of authority be attached to them.

none of whom hold police powers

stupid comment

we can live with the occasional bad chef or journalist, and God knows we suffer bad politicians - BUT - and here is the big caveat - none of them are entrusted with our safety -

One bad cop SHOULD tarnish the whole bunch - maybe the good ones will strive to ostracize them rather than circle the frat wagons

The Omaha Police Dept. has a lot of problems ranging from decades of PC leadership to having 4 chiefs of police in the last 5 years being roughly 27% understrength & having a culture that tolerates corruption .

Hell the OPD has 4 police unions ! A white union ( the Fraternal Order of Police) a Black union ( brotherhood of Midwest Guardians) a Latino officers Association & a LGBT support group.

Also members of the two largest unions would rather shoot at each other than trust /back each other up.

I know this as I have lived in Omaha for nearly 50 years & know Omaha cops .
