The U.S. Army has given the first development contracts for renewable energy technologies under a $7 billion initiative.

They have lost their way. Once the adults return to power, if we should be so blessed, the army needs to clean house.

Awesome! Just what we need! Expensive, unreliable sources of energy.

This makes me sick. Next thing we’ll see is multi-billion dollar green weapons. It bad enough that we smart weapons out of fear of collateral damage. I say the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim and we should dispatch as many as possible as cheaply as possible.

Good for us if they install martial law.

BTW, It’s occurs to me that a couple dozen well-placed nukes on 9/12/2001 could have saved us enormous amounts of energy.

The Army does need to operational, whether surrounding traditional infrastructure is or not. I’m confined to using PV solar and other solar energy here (too far from powerlines and natural gas) and see it as a hardship (initial costs). But I also see the advantages for all of us in off-grid energy for the Army (having also been a combat engineer, combat type, not construction).

To all: what will you do for energy, if infrastructure is torn up by disaster? It would be interesting to see populations of large suburbs around major cities burning wood or coal to stay warm enough (not referring to people in the extremely populated south here, where air conditioning is used to keep violent crime down).
