The Insiders: Hard facts cloud the Obama presidency
Washington Post ^ | May 6, 2013 | Ed Rogers

E.J. Dionne Jr. wrote yesterday that “many Americans have lost the sense of what he [President Obama] is doing to improve their lives.” Dionne goes on to say that to combat this disillusionment, President Obama needs to do a better job of telling the American people how his agenda promotes “growth and opportunity.”

The fact is that President Obama needs a new agenda, not a better way of selling the status quo. If we define the success of the Obama presidency by examining some of the quantifiable facts that measure our country’s progress, it’s hard to argue that the lives of Americans have improved over the past four years or that these discouraging trends are going to be reversed anytime soon.

Since Obama’s first full month in office in February 2009, the unemployment rate has gone from terrible (8.3 percent) to very bad (7.5 percent). But a true picture of just how bad the unemployment situation is in our country is revealed by the fact that more than 9.5 million people have dropped out of the labor force since the president took office in 2009. Undoubtedly, the impact of this number is reflected in some of the other indices and statistics that we can use to objectively measure the success of the Obama presidency.

In the past five years, 9.5 million people have quit working and the current labor force participation rate is just 63.6 percent, the lowest it’s been since May 1979. More than 15.2 million more people are on food stamps today than were in February 2009, and during the same time frame, the poverty rate has increased by 0.7 percent.

The chains of extreme debt and loss of liberty is not an improvement.

He did promise chains you can believe in.

Barry had his hope and dream of creating a dictatorship...that didn’t happen. He placed troops on the ground in foreign conflict where he failed again. Fast and furious hit the fan so damage control has to begin. He gets elected again but his dream of a socialist nation can’t take hold. He drives the sequester to once try to drive down America and convince us that Government will take care of us. His failure over the Benghazi tragedy will result in more cover up or his administration has planted witness that will skew the upcoming testimony.

Funny how this information is just coming out NOW, instead of about a year ago.

When I read that statistic about people in the labor force being the same as in 1979 I about croaked.

In 1979 we had 230 million people living in the US. Now we have 330 million.

I know liberals are loyal to Obama and will do anything to cover his incompetence, but good grief, don't they CARE about this country?

Don't they "get" that he has hurt liberal's dreams, as well? Do they not have kids?

Or to be more blunt, don't they care about their own wallets?

Yeah, show them damn Christain extremists how bass-ackwards they are on gay marriage. But that doesn't pay the bills.

The US total labor force is much larger now than in 1979, what is stagnant or declining is the labor force participation rate.

And that’s the net worth we know about.

It’s guaranteed that the bastard will retire with a fat offshore nest egg. Paid for by the Chicoms, Russians and Saudis for his “flexibility”
