I find it annoying that the takers don't have to spend 1/3 of their daytime hours working "for the public good".
(They instead spend their time working against the public good.)

Taxes are fine so long as they are assessed equally. A government with unlimited power to tax unfavored behaviors is a tyrannical government of unlimited and unenumerated power.
