In a ruling that is being compared to the case that led to free agency in baseball, a federal judge in California upheld an arbitration panels decision to release talk-radio host Michael Savage from a contract with his former syndicator, Talk Radio Network.
Savages lawyer, Dan Horowitz, called it a landmark case for talk radio.
Michael is to talk radio what Curt Flood was to Major League Baseball, Horowitz told WND, referring to the player who challenged baseballs reserve clause, which kept a player bound to his team even after fulfillment of his contract.
Savage told WND the ruling should free talent from the threats and extortionist behavior of ruthless Old-Hollywood types who can still be found in the corners of the radio industry.

Thanks to Marylou1 for the heads up!
Savage ping!
Does this mean the narcissist will be back on the air?
He is back on the air , and thank God he is .
Glad to hear he’s back on the air. Will be on the lookout for him ;)
He barely “left” the air a year or so ago. Yeah he’s quirky, but he leaves the gas bag Cigar Chewer in the dust!
Savage would be awesome if he would stick to events and analysis, and not talk about himself so much. I usually end up changing the station when he talks about his book, or his boat, or his college degrees.
Michael Savage is a brilliant man, but, he has a very high opinion of himself. I remember his reading a fairly graphic sex scene aloud on the air from one of his novels, and, afterwards, exclaiming something like, “No one writes like that!” Of course, right up there with Joseph Conrad and C.S. Lewis!
I have a question for Doc Savage: Who forced you to sign that restrictive contract? You could have gone and flipped burgers somewhere. And, you were probably making seven figures in that terrible contract.
Oh, and — as best I can tell — you have left San Antonio listeners high and dry three times over the past 10 years . . . . When you got free from your most recent “restrictive” contract, you apparently went off the air (the third time) in San Antonio without so much as a farewell. This is professional?
Sorry, not buying your schtick any longer. And — in my admittedly, jaded) view — you are not that great of a writer, prolific though you indubitably are. However, your voice, your intellect, and your quick wit will probably never again be matched in a single individual.
Okay. I will stop now before I say what I really feel.
I am still wondering how the smartest man in America signed such a bad contract in the first place?
or his dog(s).
Savage is a San Fran leftist in sheeps clothing...
No, he doesn’t exactly, and is obviously insanely jealous of him as well. He’s brilliant at times, has a great voice, got in the business at the right time, but there are reasons he’s not number 1.
Savage is a sane voice in the wilderness, despite the rough edges.
All I know in this vein is that Robert Reed (I think that’s his name), the actor who played the dad in the Brady Bunch, had a famous contract dispute with the producers of that show. I’ve read that this case is studied by all first year law students.

Oh - and I prefer Miller!
He’s on WABC radio following Mark Levin of all people.
Savage is completely annoying, but has the occasional ability to effectively skewer the Left. He deserves credit for that. Unfortunately, he supplanted Bachelor.
In terms of sober analysis, Levin is the best hands-down. Might be too intense for the lazy ear.
This
I have a couple of problems with Savage.
First, he's so jealous of Hannity, and Rush that he constantly attacks them. It makes no sense when there are so many targets on the left.
Second, He's too full of himself. He thinks he's so smart that he doesn't actually listen to his callers, and often misses some excellent points they bring up.
On the bright side, when he left the air in my area, my local station moved Mark Levin up the the 5:00 PM slot. Much better than the 8:00 PM slot he was in.
